What does a content and PR agency do?

A content and PR agency plans what a brand says, produces it, places it where it will be believed, and monitors the conversation around it. That covers content strategy and production, editorial and publication placement, and media monitoring. The value is in the sequence: content built to a strategy and placed with intent, rather than volume published in the hope that something lands.

The problem

Publishing is not a strategy

Most content plans are calendars. They answer how often a brand will post and almost never answer what a brand is trying to become known for, or which of its claims would actually be believed if a third party said them. The result is a large amount of competent output that changes nothing, and a PR function measured in coverage volume rather than in whether anyone's opinion moved.

The approach

01

Five-step content ideology

We work through a defined five-step process from strategy to execution, measuring against real value metrics rather than output volume, so that content is commissioned against a purpose instead of a slot in a calendar.

02

Decide what to be known for

Authority is narrow. Content strategy starts by choosing the small number of subjects a brand can credibly own, then committing to them long enough for the market to notice.

03

Place it where it is believed

A claim carries differently depending on who makes it. Editorial placements and branded publications let a brand be discussed by a third party rather than only advertising about itself.

04

Listen constantly

Always-on media monitoring surfaces opportunities and risks before they trend. That gives a brand the chance to enter a conversation while it is still a conversation, and to handle a problem while it is still small.

05

Measure value, not volume

Performance is judged against the value metrics agreed at the start, so the reporting answers whether the brand's position moved rather than how many pieces were published.

Before you ask

Fair questions.

  • It is our defined process for taking content from strategy through to execution and measurement end to end, judged against real value metrics rather than volume of output. It exists so content gets commissioned against a purpose instead of against a calendar.

  • Media monitoring is always-on listening across media and social channels for mentions of a brand, its category and its competitors. It is worth having for two reasons: it surfaces conversations you could usefully join while they are still live, and it gives you warning of a problem while it is still small.

  • Yes. Editorial placements and branded publications are both part of the offer. They work best alongside owned content rather than instead of it, because a third-party endorsement is more persuasive when there is something credible for it to point at.
